Laura and Nic’s Lakeside Wedding on Squam Lake
This lakeside wedding brought joy and sunshine as Laura and Nic married on the dock just down a winding wooded path from her family’s summer cabin in New Hampshire. The couple now make their home in Colorado, but returned to Squam Lake for a ceremony in the same location as where Laura’s parents married. This made the full circle aspect of photographing this family wedding even more special!
Nic and Laura chose to have a first look right on Squam Lake. They were both excited to see each other and the towering trees made for a dramatic frame. Laura’s lace train swished over the soft pine needles as the couple exchanged gifts and we enjoyed capturing their relaxed, happy demeanor. We also set up group portraits with the view of the lake and mountains beyond. What a beautiful backdrop! And it’s a view that is familiar and meaningful to the family.
Soon mandolin music wafted on the air and wedding guests flowed down to the dock as the sun reflected off the lake -- perfect September weather! Nic’s dad officiated the wedding ceremony. Nic and Laura read their vows -- identical words that they crafted to ring both humorous and true. Laura’s parents expanded the reach of their dock by tying up pontoon boats to serve as additional seating. As photographers, we tend to shift positions very quietly during a church ceremony, across a lawn, or in this case, we moved along the deck of the pontoon boat and therefore caused a slight rocking for all the guests! :)
Some of our favorite photos from this Squam Lake wedding were taken as the newly married couple came back up the path from their ceremony. Steve also took additional photos of the couple by their birch arbor on the dock, which was a great way to increase the number of photos focused on the couple in a quieter moment. Truly, we like to take as many photos of the couple as possible. After all, it’s their love that brought everyone together!
After the lakefront ceremony, Laura’s parents welcomed folks up to the porch for hors d'ouevres and made a toast to the newlyweds. Soon, the dancing began, and the “Dancing Queen” aka Laura (!) was encircled by appreciative guests of all generations. The photography culminated with coverage of the glowing dining tables and tents in the autumnal darkness like a warm campfire under the dark stars.
Thank you, Laura and Nic!
