Christina's Way Wedding

Amy and Krister's Searsmont Maine Wedding

What a beautiful lakeside wedding at Christina’s Way in midcoast Maine! The couple reached out to BrightWorks Photography and brought us on board in a fun and purposeful way. Amy and Krister knew that they wanted documentary photography, but also valued family portraits. We were overjoyed to capture the celebration that they envisioned – from a first look to final shots with an amazing live band!

When the couple found Christina’s Way, they knew they had landed on the perfect nearby lakeside wedding venue. Less than two hours from the couple’s Portland home, this quiet Searsmont family camp compound is dotted with sturdy buildings and pretty views. They explained, “We are just really thrilled to have everyone with us in one place to relax and have a good time.”

Christina’s Way has many options for a first look spot - whether by the house or along the lakeshore. We chose to photograph the couple in the soft light near a massive moss covered granite boulder – probably a glacial erratic! This spot led to one of our favorite photos of the year – Amy with her mom, sister, friends, and the most expressive flower girl in the background.

The wedding ceremony unfolded on a grassy plateau near the lake. Krister wore his family’s heraldic colors and Amy walked down the aisle in her stunning emerald green wedding gown. Under an arbor festooned with roses, the couple exchanged reflective remarks and Amy shared an early, impromptu kiss with the groom! The couple recessed as the happy guests blew picture book bubbles from tiny replica champagne bottles.

Amy and Krister’s reception took place at lovely long tables behind the main house. The friendly people at Uproot Pie Company wheeled up their mobile pizza oven and created an array of delicious wood-fired pies right on-site. Amy’s mother wowed everyone with home-made whoopie pies for dessert, enjoyed under the twinkling lights as the sun began to set. (Best whoopie pies we’ve ever had! The sponginess of the chocolate plus the perfect filling – just the right amount of sweetness!)

Catching the last of the light, the couple walked along the lake for romantic portraits punctuated by laughter and a few twirls of Amy’s dress. Afterward everyone gathered inside the generous screened porch of the main house while the band tuned up. Amy and Krister cut up the rug with their first dance to “I’ve Got My Mind Set on You.” It stayed in our head for weeks - as did the couple’s joyful expressions! After a few songs, the guests changed out of their formal clothes and into their party clothes, ready to dance the night away.

Congratulations, Amy and Krister!
