Two Lights Rocks and Beach Engagement

Kristen and Will’s Engagement Session in Cape Elizabeth, Maine

We met Kristen and Will near the Lobster Shack at Two Lights on a bustling Saturday evening for their Maine engagement session. Surprisingly warm weather drew a solid crowd to order lobster dinners and a few families toted children, towels, and brightly colored pails to the shore for an early start to summer. We introduced ourselves to the couple, double-checked our camera settings, and headed down to Dyer Cove Beach.

Kristen and Will were so friendly and open to the photography right from the start of the engagement session and absorbed the posing tips easily. It was amazing to watch Kristen’s smile light up the viewfinder. We began with shots of the couple walking with the lighthouse in the background, followed by some beach wandering, and finally a trip up onto one of the rocky peninsulas that stretches into the Atlantic Ocean.

As the sun sank lower in the sky, we drove to nearby Kettle Cove Beach for sunset engagement photos. The couple debated changing into their casual outfits, but Kristen enjoyed wearing her floral dress and decided to stick with it! They popped open some champagne and bravely strolled ankle-deep in the cold Maine waters. A full moon rose behind them and we captured a few shots at “blue hour” – taking advantage of the bluish light that often lingers just after sunset.

This was such a perfect engagement session! We got to know the couple – even just a glimpse of how they naturally interact and hold each other – which always helps make the wedding day photography feel like an extension of the couple’s dynamic. It was also so fun to see Kristen and Will enjoy the two locations to the fullest. We recommend their approach, right down to the wet feet! And we’re looking forward to photographing their wedding celebration in August.
