Devon and Reed’s Camden Maine Elopement

During their elopement and wedding getaway to the harbor town of Camden, Maine, Devon and Reed embraced the ever-changing Maine weather!

Steve spoke with the couple on video chat a few times prior to the September date, so when we met them in the 16 Bay View hotel lobby, we felt like we knew them already! Their families were so warm and friendly and everyone was willing to adapt to the weather. Reed held the umbrella in an elegant fashion as the couple walked through Camden. Several passersby turned their heads and called out, “Congratulations!”

After a slightly damp walk, Devon and Reed laughed on the lawn at Harbor Park and posed for portraits with Camden harbor in the background. The park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted’s two sons and is a popular landmark. Devon and Reed stood on the green hillock like the quintessential couple on a cake! They had fun walking toward the Camden Public Library and Devon’s dress was perfect for swirling in the Camden Amphitheatre.

We returned to the hotel and Devon’s sister officiated an intimate wedding ceremony marked by beaming smiles, the exchange of rings, and a break in the weather. The two families posed together for group shots and celebrated with wine and scallops. Devon and Reed generously sent us home with a few slices of lemon blueberry cake, and we confirmed final details for the following morning’s sunrise shoot.

The next day brought chilly temperatures, but Devon bravely wore her sleeveless wedding dress and hiked up Beech Hill with Reed for sunrise wedding portraits overlooking Penobscot Bay. These images are really lovely and it is all due to the couple’s commitment to embracing the adventure and enjoying the sweeping view despite the wind and cold!

The couple was also open to exploring an additional spot for wedding photos in Camden, so we drove up nearby Mt. Battie for some shots overlooking the harbor. Mt. Battie is graced with a distinctive tower and weathered granite outcrop. We could just barely see the outline of the 16 Bay View roof deck below, but it felt like a very fitting way to connect the wedding ceremony with the images at higher elevation.

Congratulations to you both! Thank you for sharing your visit to Camden, Maine with us!
