Rural and Romantic Outdoor Wedding

Maci and Justin's Northern Maine Wedding

Justin and Maci chose to be married at his family’s place on a pretty green hillside in the rolling fields of Northern Maine. Justin’s family even built a barn for the occasion! We enjoyed getting to know the dear friends and family that helped make this event one to remember. And Maci and Justin were so sweet and relaxed throughout the hot, humid day.

The drive north to the wedding led us up past Katahdin, the famous northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, through farm fields awash in tiny potato blossoms, and beyond a string of farm stands offering new potatoes. There are sixteen counties in Maine but only one is known as the crown of Maine – Aroostook County in Northern Maine!

When we arrived at the wedding site in Fort Fairfield, Maci and Justin greeted us and led us into the house where Rebecca started with the layflat details, including Maci’s grandmother’s ring. Maci soon got ready and stepped onto a shaded porch for bridal portraits while Justin and his brother prepared on the ground floor.

Maci and Justin reunited for the first look by a quintessential Maine backdrop of balsam fir trees. All nerves evaporated! They took a short, romantic walk together, winding past an apple tree, and then made their way back up to the porch for family photos. As the guests started to arrive and take their seats, Justin and Maci rested out of sight until Justin told Maci that it was time to “blaze the trail” just as though they were about to bushwhack on one of their Maine adventures.

The beautiful late afternoon wedding ceremony in Northern Maine wove together vows, a reading about the hands we hold, and a wonderful affirmation as both sets of parents stood and watched Maci and Justin be married. It gave us plenty of opportunities to photograph! And we were so moved to be present on this special day as each person took the care to find the words to articulate their love and commitment.

Justin’s mom has amazing event-planning experience and debuted the wedding barn to cheers and astonished gasps from the guests. An array of LED lights encircled by clear orbs provided illumination, and a dinner cooked up by local favorite - Governor’s Restaurant & Bakery - delighted all. We’ve heard there’s special affection for the “Jump on It” dance in the county. We can’t confirm or deny! But we can attest that Maci and Justin had a wonderful celebration in the barn and though high winds made it impossible to safely light the bonfire, the newlyweds danced the night away.

Here are some of our favorite photographs from their day!
